Butterfly valves introduction
For water supply, chemical and oil industries, fuel handling systems, power production, fire safety, wastewater treatment and gas application.
What is a butterfly valve?
A butterfly valve is used as a shut-off valves and known with its simple construction. When the disc is in the closed position, it closes the valve bore; when it is in the open position, the disc turned to allow flow. Quick opening and closing is possible with the butterfly valve since it only requires a quarter turn to switch from completely open to fully closed position, or the other way around.
Where do we use a butterfly valve?
Butterfly valves are useful in many different applications, including the water supply, chemical and oil industries, fuel handling systems, power production, fire safety, wastewater treatment, and gas supply. Some advantages in using butterfly valve are its simple structure design that doesn't take up a lot of space, it is light weight, and is less expensive when compared to other valve designs.
Butterfly valves can be operated with handwheels, gears or actuators according to specific requirement.
Main design of butterfly valves
The butterfly valve can be centric or eccentric. The disc and stem of a centric (concentric) butterfly valve are centered in the bore and the disc is centered in the stem. The double offset butterfly valve and triple offset butterfly valve categories describe how one or more stems (stub shafts) are positioned offset from the center of the eccentric butterfly valve.
