Water transmission
When transported from storage facility to distribution networks, water is travelling through transmission pipelines. In these pipelines, the necessary pressure is created either by gravity or by associated pumping stations. Water is led from its source, such as a reservoir, to a water treatment plant and from here, it is usually pumped into service reservoirs and distribution networks, before finally reaching private homes or facilities.
For pipelines to water transmission, concrete, ductile iron, steel or GRP/GRE are usually the preferred materials. For smaller dimensions, plastic pipes such as HDPE may be used.
There are various historical and design-related reasons why individual authorities and consulting engineers will have a preference for different valve types and designs. While some are comfortable using gate valves, others prefer butterfly valves – and within each valve category, several design options are available. The choice of valve also depends on project specific applications as well as availability of different pressure classes.
AVK offers a wide range of gate valves, centric and double eccentric butterfly valves, air valves, swing check valves, along with a selection of couplings, repair clamps and valve accessories.
